Apple AirTunes RSA Private Key Cracked
Another page in the DRM saga. James Laird extracts the AirTunes RSA private key, opening an avenue to Airport Express emulation and unrestricted music streaming.
The Apple AirTunes private key has been cracked and published. That's what Airport Express uses to authenticate itself to iTunes and receive the streaming audio. Using the leaked private key, third party software can show up as an Airport Express in iTunes. The new page in the DRM saga has been written by James Laird, dumping an Airport Express ROM and reverse engineering the RSA key pair out of it. Apple has not confirmed, yet.
I'm interested to observe what Apple will do, if any, about this. Are network externalities ready to strike back?
